Gabica of Getz Pharma is an analogue of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid(gaba).It has analgesic and anticonvulsant activity. Gabica chemically is pregabalin.
Mechanism of Action
Gabica reduces neuronal calcium currents by binding to the alpha-2 delta subunit of voltage gated calcium channels in CNS tissues and this particular mechanism may be responsible for effect in neuropathic pain, anxiety and other pain syndromes. Gabica does not block sodium channels, is not active at opiate receptors, and does not alter cyclooxgenase enzyme activity. It is inactive at serotonin and dopamine receptor and does not inhibit dopamine, serotonin or noradrenalne reuptake.
Gabica is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity of pregabalin or any of its components. Patients with a hereditary problem of galactose intolerance, the lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine.
Gabica is given with or without food. When discontinuing Gabica, taper gradually over a minimum of one week irrespective of the indication. Starting dose of Gabica is 150 mg per day to a maximum of 600 mg per day depending upon the severity.
